July 23, 2013 - Derry and Belfast, Ireland

Today, we took the bus to the old walled city of Derry (now called Londonderry by the loyalists who want to be a part of the United Kingdom). It is one of the most segregated towns in Northern Ireland with complete Catholic and Protestant enclaves outside the old city walls. It has the most intact city walls in Ireland.

Since it was Elaine’s birthday, she requested that we spend the evening listening to some authentic Irish music. So, we scouted out a pub where live music was being played intending to stay a couple of hours and staying 4.
