Today, we continued roaming around and exploring Liverpool. It is interesting that several UK citizens on the cruise ship coming over told us that we should skip Liverpool They said that it was just an industrial town with a bunch of Beatles stuff. Those people must not have been here!
25 pounds per night to stay on the Yellow Submarine.
It is not New York City, it is Liverpool, England from the Birkenhead side of the Mersey River.
Ferry dock at Birkenhead. We went over to Birkenhead to book our ferry trip from Liverpool to Belfast. Taxi over, but we just had to “Ferry Cross The Mersey” to get back. Below, views of Liverpool and Birkenhead from the Mersey Ferry.
Below, a listing of 1962 groups who invented the “Mersey Beat” including The Beatles and Gerry and the Pacemakers.
Mathew Street sign where The Cavern Club is located and where the Mersey Beat all began. Below, we are back at The Cavern Club again. Meant to stay a couple of hours. Arrive about 8:00pm and stayed until after midnight.
Again notice how narrow the stage is at The Cavern. It has to fit between the two brick columns. Forget about seeing the stage, there are visual obstructions everywhere. Below, the priceless instrument that The Beatles used to play their first set at The Cavern Club on February 9, 1962. The crowd was modest and not too impressed until they got into about their third song. To really appreciate how great The Beatles were, Google Beatles songs some day and look at the number of songs they both wrote and recorded. The majority of their songs were written by the group.
Hundreds of initials and names carved into the walls of The Cavern over the years.
