January 25, 2017 Cruising the Chilean Fjords - 2017 Cruise to South American & Cape Horn

January 25, 2017 – Cruising Chilean Fjords on board “Infinity”

Went to a talk about travel through the fjords and the Straits of Magellan. The speaker pointed out where we will be making narrow passages, where we will see glaciers and where to expect the very windy weather conditions at the Cape. The ship will make a 21 mile circuit of Cape Horn, weather permitting. The southern coast of Chile presents a large number of fjords and fjord-like channels. Some fjords and channels are important navigable channels providing access to ports like Punta Arenas.

Next we went to a talk given by the food service staff about “How to Cook the Perfect Steak.”  After a watercolor class, we adjourned to the cabin to work on this travel blog.  Cocktail hour tonight as we enter into the fjords of the Patagonia area of Chile. A bit of a funny moment during the theater evening show. The singer was a young lady from Canada. She announced that she was going to sing a song by Celine Dion and the band began to play the intro to “My Heart Will Go On.” The stage manager came out from the wings and, in a loud stage whisper he announced, “You are not allowed to sing that song on a cruise ship.” So she switched to Celine’s second most famous song, “The Power of Love.” Is that a thing? Can you not sing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ on a cruise ship?
