February 1, 2017 – Cruising Day on board Celebrity Infinity and Punta del Este, Uruguay - 2017 Cruise to South American & Cape Horn

Our final lazy day at sea. Finished a book, attended an afternoon comedy show and generally strolled about the ship talking and visiting. Tomorrow we dock in Punta del Este, Uruguay, the Miami Beach of South America.

February 2, 2017 – Punta del Este, Uruguay

Arrived in Punta del Este, Uruguay. It has been 15 years since we were here last and found that the city has grown remarkably. It is still very much the home of the rich and famous, but while all the high rise condos used to be on the peninsula, now homes and condos are starting to encircle the bay. Full of upscale shops, nice restaurants and clean streets. Security is present almost everywhere. Heads of corporations, famous entertainers, highly paid soccer players and, yes, probably a few drug lords make their homes here. The harbor is full of luxury power yachts and large sailboats. We walked around the marinas admiring the boats and strolled the streets we had walked on our last visit. Had a nice lunch then headed back to the ship. Warm, beautiful weather day. Biggest night in the on-board casino. In two spins of the roulette wheel, I turned $10 into $100. Sail tonight for Montevideo which is only a two hour drive away.
