A Coruna Spain May 28 and May 29, 2011

Sunday, May 29, 2011

Arrive A Coruna, Spain 8:00 am, depart 5:00 pm

We had a very nice time in A Coruna (or La Coruna) Spain. It is Sunday and most of the shops are closed and the tram/trolley around the city did not start until 12:00 noon.

We walked around in the old town “Ciudad Vieja” and then found Plaza de Maria Pita where they were having a 5K fun run and activities in the square.  We found a sidewalk café and got a cappuccino and watch for several minutes.

Afterwards we walked to the beach area. People were beginning to get out on the streets and the beaches by noon. We walked along the beach to the tram station and waited for a ride around the city back to the ship. A Coruna has a World Heritage site, the only working roman lighthouse in the world a 2nd-century “Torre de Hercules” and still in use. We were on the way back to the ship and were walking by the Marina and noticed a café and decided to check if we could get internet and check email before getting on the ship. Nice place called Nemo Bar. We watched the boats going in and out of the marina and the French Open on TV.

Above is the cash reister in Nemo Bar.  It is similar to an ATM.  Waiter inserts money and the machine returns the change.  The  waiter has an ID bracelet to activate an entry.

This is the gate to get in the marina slips.  Note the sides look like a sail and the door is similar to a hatchway and porthole.  If you don’t have a key you have to buzz in for access.  Too Cool!
