Sunday, September 4, 2011 - Grinzing, Austria wine area suburb of Vienna

Toured city using the public trams and then road the tram out to Grinzing, a far suburb of Vienna. Grinzing used to be a remote village in the foothills of the wine growing area outside Vienna. Grinzing is known for its wine bars offering a variety of Austrian wines. We had a great meal and the best applestrudel dessert. Oh, yes, we also had some wine.

View of Grinzing from Vienna.

Giant champagne bottle at a festival in a park.

Arriving at Grinzing.  Quaint narrow streets loaded with restaurants and wine bars.  Lovely afternoon to be in this area.

2 of the restaurants/wine bars – known as “Heurigan” (a wine tavern).  Most are gardens in the back or side of the restaurant with lots of tables usually under shade trees with lots of vines and flowers.  Some also have music.  Very relaxing places.

We ate at this one.

Looking at the guide to see what to do next.     Checking the menu for dinner.

This is a sail shade cover.  It has roller furling just like on a sailboat.

Great meal Beef Roulade (Austrian Style Beef Roll with dill pickle and vegetables in the middle).

Sirloin steak with red onion rings and roasted potatoes.  The large potato chunks very crisp on the outside and soft inside.

We had applestrudle for dessert but we saw it and ate it so quickly I didn’t get a picture.  Hopefully we will get back there again and I’ll get a picture (and get to eat another one).

Elaine at a lovely fountain with beautiful flowers.

Sign on the tram - Please note muzzle and leash your dog.
