April 29, 2013–Walk on our own in London’s East End

The East End was famous for Jack the Ripper.  At that time it was a slum with about a million people all crowded into single rooms of decaying houses with adequate water or sewage facilities.  More than half of all children died before the age of five and prostitution and alcoholism was abundant.
