April 12-20 Days at Sea – 8 days St. Maarten to England

Friday-Sunday, April 12-14   Days at Sea.  Not much exciting happened.  We just roamed around the ship, read by the pool, etc.

Monday, April 15, 2013  Day at Sea.  Last night we had a very rough night.  Seas were 6-30 feet and wind speed 3-40 with gusts of up to 98 mph!  Yes, that is hurricane strength winds.  It is to continue like this through at least tomorrow or more.

Tuesday, April 16, 2013  Day at Sea. The weather continued all day and night with the rough seas, rain and much cooler temperatures.  Seas were 23-30 feet and winds 30-40 mph.  The Captain didn’t mention the gust today.  I’m sure they must have been similar to the night before.  We are not in the Caribbean any more!  We had a very sleepless night.   The ship was going side to side and up and down.  That was not as disruptive as the noise.  The noise of the waves hitting the ship were so loud we did not get much sleep.  This noise is similar to being in a room just below a bowling ally with beer kegs rolling around.

Wednesday, April, 17, 2013   Day at Sea. We finally got some rest and slept until the Captain woke us up with announcements at NOON.  We had a nice evening with a very entertaining show by the ship dancers, singers, entertainers from all the bars and dining rooms.  After the show all the bars were full except for one on Level 3, On Air.  We had a great Turkish bartender that made Elaine a wonderful Manhattan and Edward a Limon Martini.  Later we had another great dinner with a group we have had dinner with most nights.  After dinner we went to the Olive’r Twist Bar for jazz and easy listening and then went to the Pyramid Room for the Rock ‘Roll group.  We have met so many wonderful people from England.  They have all been amazed we are going to stay all summer.  They have given us some great ideas on where to go and what to see.  They say we will probably see and do more this summer than they have in all their life in England.

Thursday, April 18, 2013  Day at Sea. Elaine participated in the Adult 10 pin bowling competition and she was awarded First Place and a Gold Metal. (I’m sure it is really gold).  Bowling took place on the dance floor of the Labyrinth Bar.  The lane was a strip of carpet, plastic pins and the bowling ball was a hollow hard rubber ball with 3 finger holes.  What a fun time.

Elaine with First Place Gold Metal for bowling on the cruise ship.  The Bowling set up.  Elaine, 1st Place Gold Metal, at the bowling tournment with Silver and Bronze winners. This was in the Labyrinth Bar on the ship playing with plastic pins, hollow rubber ball with 3 holes, rolling on a carpet lane.

In the afternoon we went to the ice show.  It was A very good show.  They had some extremely talented skaters and a wonderful violinist.  The show “Strings” theme was about the journey of a violin.

Friday, April 19, 2013.  Day at Sea. This is our last day and night before arriving in Southampton, England at 5:30 am.

We had a lovely dinner with our English and Canadian table companions and the Swiss Army Guy and “Sandra”, lady with a black cloud over her head and complained about everything.  We did finally loosen her a bit and she did finally have some comments about the food, service, etc. that was good.  We also said goodbye to the “boys” at the next table.  They were so funny and they love to ask Americans about politics.

Saturday, April 20, 2013  Arrive in Southampton, England today.  Departed ship and caught the Charter Bus to Heathrow Airport.  Southampton is about 50 miles from London and then we took a taxi to the hotel.  We were a bit surprised at the cost of the taxi to the hotel. Yikes!!!

Tomorrow we will meet up with Kim to cheer her on at the London Marathon.
