Retirees Lunches

Saturday, March 12, 2011
We drove in with our friends, Joseph and Dianne, for the first time since we retired, inside the loop of Houston, Texas for an errand and had lunch at a great restaurant "Block 7 Wine Company" http://www.block7winco.com/
Block 7 is a wine store and restaurant.  You can buy a bottle of wine in the store and drink it at your table.
We decided on a "tapas" style lunch.  We shared the following:
Flatbread - "The Whole Pig" housemade Italian sausage, prosciutto San Danielle, smoked bacon
Braised Duck & Goat Cheese Ravioli with a wild mushroom broth
Crispy Au Gratin Tots,  5 cheeses, thin sliced Idaho potatoes, rolled in bread crumbs and deep fried
Rabbit Sausage with Brussels Sprout Leaves and a whole grain honey mustard sauce
Croque Monsieur Sandwich (cut in 4 pieces) country ham, raclette, béchamel, local brioche

The food was fabulous and it was a beautiful day, sunny and warm.

Edward and I had some business to tend to in Houston.  A Second time already!
We had lunch near the Galleria area at Kenny and Ziggy's New York Style Deli  http://www.kennyandziggys.com/
Everything is BIG here.  See the picture of Edward having a Monte Cristo Sandwich.  It must have been about 6 inches high - triple decker, ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese on Challah French toast w/syrup and strawberry jam and fries.  I had the Dip Tracy - French Dip, roast beef on a club roll (the size of a football, well almost) with aujus.  We each had to get a to go box - way too much food.
